Bring Your Own Key

Promethic's Standard and Pro plans include usage credits — you just use the app and everything is handled for you. But if you'd like, you can also bring your own API key.

What's an API key?

AI providers like OpenAI and Anthropic let you create an account and get an API key — like a password that connects your requests to your account with them. You can add one to Promethic in Settings → API Keys, and your requests will go directly to the provider.

How people use this

As a supplement — subscribers can add their own key to keep working after their plan's included usage runs out. Promethic can switch over automatically.

On its own — you can also use Promethic with just an API key, without a subscription or even a login. Your prompts are stored locally on your device and you pay the provider directly for what you use.

How to set up

If you have a Promethic account, just add your key in Settings → API Keys and choose how you'd like to use it. If you'd rather skip the account entirely, choose "Use with your own API key" on the welcome screen — no sign-up needed.
