Power User Guide
Promethic can be driven from a script, a launcher, or a keyboard shortcut — and a handful of things it does are not written anywhere on screen. This is all of it.
The same reference lives inside the app, under Settings → About.
Launch flags
Desktop only. Pass these when starting Promethic from a terminal, a script, or a launcher.
--prompt <abbr>Select a prompt by abbreviation
Matches the prompt's abbreviation field, not its display name. Case-insensitive.
--version <id>Use a specific prompt version (GUID)
A runtime-only override for this session. Does NOT persist — the prompt's stored current version is untouched.
requires --prompt
--input <text>Pre-fill the input field
Supports \n, \r and \t escapes.
--args-file <path>Load arguments from a JSON or key=value file
Accepts a JSON object or key=value lines. Command-line flags always win over file values. An args-file cannot reference another args-file.
--runAuto-run conversion on launch
Executes the conversion once the prompt and input are set up. Fails at startup if the conversion isn't valid — for example, if no prompt was selected.
--close-on-copyClose the app after copying output
Fires after a successful Copy, Copy & Tag, or image download. The record is saved before the window closes.
--no-record-on-copyCopy to clipboard without saving records
Copy actions skip record and delta persistence for the whole session, so scripted runs don't pollute refinement training data. Staged revisions are discarded when the app closes — that is the point of the flag, not a bug. The interactive equivalent is Cmd/Ctrl+Shift + click on Copy.
--slimMinimal UI mode (no sidebar)
A different compact single-column layout, not merely a smaller window. Minimum size 408x300; defaults to 680x460 when no size is passed.
--input-collapsedStart with input panel collapsed
Slim mode only. The input starts collapsed behind a toggle.
requires --slim; cannot be combined with --no-input
--no-inputHide input panel entirely
Slim mode only, and it needs --run because there is no way to start a conversion by hand once the input UI is gone. Clear and Convert are hidden.
requires --slim and --run; cannot be combined with --input-collapsed
--window-width <px>Set window width
Must be greater than zero. Silently floored at the layout's minimum width rather than rejected.
--window-height <px>Set window height
Must be greater than zero. Silently floored at the layout's minimum height rather than rejected.
--window-x <px>Set horizontal position
Must be passed together with --window-y.
requires --window-y
--window-y <px>Set vertical position
Must be passed together with --window-x.
requires --window-x
--window-position <x,y>Set position (shorthand for -x and -y)
Takes a single "x,y" pair. Equivalent to passing --window-x and --window-y together.
Examples
Promethic --slim --prompt "email" --run --close-on-copyA one-shot transformer: launch, run, copy, close.
Promethic --slim --no-input --run --prompt "qt"No input UI at all — the prompt runs on its own the moment it opens.
Promethic --args-file ~/my-config.jsonEverything above, loaded from a file instead of the command line.
Keyboard
Cmd+Shift + click Copy / Ctrl+Shift + click CopyCopy without saving a record
The Copy button reads "No save" while the keys are held. Use it when a run shouldn't become refinement training data. Activating Copy from the keyboard always saves.
EscClose the topmost dialog, viewer or wizard
Works through the whole stack, closing the frontmost layer first.
Cmd+V / Ctrl+VPaste an image straight into the input or revise box
With an image on the clipboard this attaches it, on models that accept image input. Text pastes at the caret as usual.
Hidden in plain sight
Real features with no button of their own.
Split off the selected version as a new prompt
Turns one version of a prompt into a prompt of its own, with or without carrying its records across.
Duplicate an entire prompt, with every version and record
Pin a prompt to the top of the sidebar
A pinned prompt also keeps its place inside its folder, so it appears in both.
Archive a prompt without deleting it
Archived prompts leave the sidebar but keep every version and record.
Move a prompt into a folder
The list offers every folder except the one it is already in.
Reorder prompts and folders by dragging
Open or close the sidebar with a swipe
Swipe in from the left edge to open it, and back to the left to close it.
Tap any text box to edit it full screen
The editor opens with the caret already where you tapped.
Preview an attachment full screen
Works for both text and image attachments.
Good to know
- Window size and position persist per machine between launches, and are restored before any --window-* flag is applied. Pass explicit sizes if you need a reproducible layout.
- Inside an args-file, keys ignore case, hyphens and underscores — closeOnCopy, close-on-copy and CLOSE_ON_COPY are the same key. Command-line flags are matched exactly and are case-sensitive.
